A visit to Lake Michigan

I was going to say "The Lake", but that's what people here in Missouri say all the time, and at first it drove me crazy because I would always ask which lake and they would say THE lake, like duh, there is only one.  Michigan has over 11,000 lakes, but my favorite is Lake Michigan. Growing up spending a lot of time on Lake Huron I feel like I'm cheating on my side of the state, but Lake Michigan's beach is amazing, as are the sunsets and the swimming.  This year we let Avrie head up to my parents for a week and since she had to get home somehow, we went up to Michigan for Haileigh's birthday and to get Avrie.  I was thinking about how nice it would be to take advantage of our last trip up to Michigan before winter and so for part of Rob's birthday present we stayed overnight in Holland and found a small little public beach a bit north of South Haven and relaxed for the morning.

The water was amazing and the girls had a fabulous time finding rocks and shells. Sadly, the shells are all from the zebra mussels, and in parts of the beach they cover the shoreline, but Avrie still found some pretty ones.  She also loved finding the BIG rocks in the water, and wanted to bring them home, instead we took a picture and brought home small rocks.

Quinn danced in the waves and threw sand in the water and Rob and I just hung out with Jaq the dog and the girls...and had a stone skipping contest since there were lots of flat round stones to be found...sadly, he won, but I think the baby belly was in my way...   :)

So we had a wonderful and relaxing morning, stopped at the fabulous Kilwins for dessert after some lunch and then had the long drive home. I love that I am able to share a piece of me with my family, even if it is in small bits.  I love seeing how the girls interact with the lake and it brings back tons of fond memories of playing in Lake Huron with my brothers and friends.
