Grandma's Irises

One of the many things I remember about my grandparent's farm is my grandma's awesome flowerbed/rock garden. My brothers and cousins and I would play in the garden all the time racing across the rocks and playing whatever game our crazy minds could think up.  My grandma has quite the green thumb and I'm always telling stories about her beautiful roses and other flowers, and her fabulous raspberry bushes and garden.  When she asked if I would like some iris bulbs that came from the farm I was excited. I found an empty area along our house here in Columbia and got them all planted in the fall ready for Spring 2009.  When the iris started growing I was all excited...until they didn't bloom.  I was worried they weren't getting enough sun or something, but Grandma told me to leave them alone for now and see what happened this spring...and I'm glad that I listened...kept the dog out of the flowers, and this Spring we have been rewarded with some very beautiful iris.  The first ones that bloomed were yellow, and got knocked down in the massive rain stom we had at the end of April, so I wasn't able to get pictures...but here are some pictures of the rest that have recently bloomed....

The girls love having the flowers in the back yard, and they think it's pretty fun to have something from Great Grammy around and I love that I have something that reminds me of the good times out at the farm growing up, now if I could have as fabulous of a raspberry patch, I'd be all set :)
