Zoey the cat...her story and new friend

When we first brought Avrie home from the hospital Zoey, our cat checked her out and had nothing to do with her (or any of us) for at least a month. We would have to go down to the basement to find her to make sure everything was alright...needless to say she was majorly ticked off at us for bring home this noisy thing that upset her normal exsistance...and took over the room in which she loved to sit in the windows.

Through the past 4 years Avrie and Zoey had a love/hate relationship...Avrie loved Zoey...Zoey hated Avrie. We taught Avrie to respect Zoey and not pull tails, but Zoey doesn't have a lot of tolerence for attention, hates being picked up, and is defintely a cat who chooses when and what kind of attention she wants, which Avrie wanted to give her all the time.

Overall Zoey is a great cat, she just wants to be treated like the Queen she thinks she is.  She hates the dog, and Quinn is learning the hard way that Zoey will scratch if you go too far (even though we torture her once a month or so and cut her nails).  At the end of March we moved Avrie's bed to give her more floor space in her room and for whatever reason, Zoey likes this new bed spot. A first she would come visit Avrie and I when at bed time. And then she would start to check out Avrie's room when no one else was in there. Eventually she started laying on Avrie's bed. Now we find her sleeping on Avrie's bed, and she'll even hang out with Avrie during her rest time.

I'm really proud of both Avrie and Zoey... Avrie has learned how to watch for Zoey's signs of being done with attention. She helps make sure Zoey gets treats and plays with her.  And Zoey is learning to appreciate Avrie and her love.  It may have taken them 4 1/2 years, but they are becoming good buddies.
Kisses for Avrie >^^<

Another thing Avrie loves about Zoey is the silly things she does:
This is Avrie and Quinn's doll car seat...we thought it was just a one time thing...but no, she's been back trying to check it out, but there are currently baby dolls filling the space.

So that's Zoey the Cat. She is now 7 years old and doing good. I'm hoping she'll keep finding the good things about Avrie and that with the baby coming soon she won't freak out and head for the basement for a month again.
